Integrating pictorial narratives in the my career story into practice

Pictorial Narratives represent a constructionist, narrative-informed approach to career construction that involves the use of client-produced and client-interpreted drawings of their problem and preferred outcome stories. The intervention emphasizes the need to reflect on meaning by creating a therapeutic space in which clients can reconstruct, or re-author, new life stories that resonate with their values, interests, and life themes. Pictorial Narratives help the constructionist career practitioner listen to not only the spoken accounts of the story, but also for important clues in the client’s story that are not-yet-said—the sometimes fragmentary pieces of experience that suggest what the client’s internal frame of reference might look and feel like. In this workshop, participants will (1) understand the theoretical assumptions upon which the Pictorial Narrative model is based; (2) become familiar with the Pictorial Narrative process by engaging in it experientially, and (3) learn how Pictorial Narratives can be applied in career construction. In addition, participants will engage in lively discussion about the Pictorial Narrative process.
