Erin LiggettScholarship Recipient: Glenn A. Saltzman Scholarship for Leadership and Community Outreach
Erin Liggett is a first year Master of Education student in the Higher Education Administration and Student Personnel program at Kent State University. In addition to her Master program, Erin is simultaneously pursuing the Certificate in Career and Academic Advising. Though Erin has enjoyed all of her coursework thus far, courses that Erin has found to be particularly useful in her work have included Career Counseling, taught by Dr. Mark Savickas, Career Advising: Theory and Practice, and College Student Development Theory. Erin has always had an interest in leadership and personal development, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from Kent State University with a major in Business Management and a minor in Human Resource Management. Currently, Erin is a graduate assistant in University College and serves as both an instructor teaching undergraduate courses integrating vocational guidance, career exploration and development, career construction, and career adaptability. In addition, she works in an academic advising capacity in the Exploratory Advising Center and as a Spring 2018 practicum student in Career Exploration and Development, where Erin is working with the Employer Relations team. The main portion of Erin’s work is with instructing the undergraduate career courses designed to assist students in learning to be environmentally and socially adaptable while making meaningful career and life decisions through active reflection, class discussions and engaging activities. Due to the nature of her graduate assistantship, Erin references and applies career theory on a daily basis. Whether Erin is facilitating a class activity grounded in the Career Construction Interview, discovering how she can be useful to Exploratory students in an academic advising capacity or applying career theory concepts to create classroom content, Erin promotes meaningful self-reflection, a curious mindset and exploration to her students. Erin is thrilled at the opportunity she has to study at the Career Construction Institute with her colleagues and learn new techniques that she can integrate in the classroom while simultaneously gaining a deeper understanding of the Life Design discourse. Upon successful completion of her Master program in Spring 2019, Erin aspires to continue working with undecided students in either a career or academic advising capacity and promote transformational conversation between students and their advisors. |
